Following an EGM last nght, the club has split and been destroyed by a clique of spineless individuals calling themselves a 'committee'. <br />
<br />
Concerns for the welfare of remaining members should be of interest to all chess players.

The Russian Chess Federation nomination has been at the centre of the fight between Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and Anatoly Karpov for the Presidency of FIDE.
4NCL Northern League 2010/11

The 4NCL are currently setting up a 4NCL Northern League. This is for northern-based teams which may currently be reluctant to commit to the travelling times to the 4NCL's existing venues. If your team is interested in taking part contact Mike Truran on (01993) 708645. Also see www.4ncl.co.uk/1011_announce.htm for details.

If successful, this might lead in due course to a regionalised 4NCL Div 3, split between north and south. The 4NCL website www.4ncl.co.uk gives more information on the 4NCL - Mike Truran.

Breaking news: Magnus Carlsen set to launch a new career

The world's highest ranked chess player is set to launch a new career as a – oops, we are not allowed to say until after the official announcement tomorrow. But it is okay for you to guess. Tennis? Soccer? Action movies? We can tell you that it is a side career, and that Magnus has no intention of abandoning the game he is so very good at. Unless of course he really gets into the new gig.

Magnus' mighty rooks

In the Kings Tournament Magnus Carlsen was once more very convincing, winning majestically with a lead of two points. The position Carlsen- Radjabov is taken from their seventh round game. In this ending, Black, whose move it is, has to be very careful about the safety of his king, because Carlsen's rooks occupy threatening posts.

Karpov to Ilyumzhinov: 'Show me the documents'

A month ago Kirsan Ilyumzhinov revealed that he was suing his challenger for the FIDE Presidency for libel. Now the Karpov campaign is threatening legal action if FIDE does not submit the Ilyumzhinov ticket's documents for examination ("by close of business on Tuesday, July 6th"). It looks as though the campaign for FIDE president may be headed to a courtroom soon.
